Namibia is in search of 2,569 teachers, both local and foreign, to fill the country’s vacancies for 2018, an education ministry official said on Tuesday.

The teaching posts are open to any qualified foreign national, but first preference will be given to Namibians, Absalom Absalom, an Education Ministry public relations officer, told Xinhua.

According to Sanet Steenkamp, permanent secretary in the Ministry of Education, 79 posts are for principals, 198 posts for head of departments and 2,292 posts for teachers.

The closing date for teachers positions is Nov. 17, and for principals and head of departments, Dec. 1, Steenkamp said.

“The above-mentioned teaching posts have been identified as critical and hence the need to be filled in order for the teaching and learning process not to be compromised,” she said.

Steenkamp said 119 of the 2,569 to be advertised have been newly created, whereas the remaining 2,450 posts are currently occupied by temporary teachers whose contracts will come to an end with effect from Dec. 31. Enditem
