A Namibian official said Wednesday that his country has started implementing a cybersecurity strategy to raise awareness about cybercrime, protect children online, and improve cybersecurity laws.

Speaking at the opening of the 4th Annual International High-Level Cybersecurity Conference held in the Namibian capital of Windhoek, Deputy Minister of Information and Communication Technology Modestus Amutse said the National Cybersecurity Strategy and Awareness Creation Plan, currently in its implementation phase, focuses on protecting vulnerable populations, particularly children.

He stressed the critical role of cybersecurity in national security, economic stability, and individual privacy in the digital age.

The challenges faced by developing countries in securing the digital economy require collective efforts from governments, industry leaders, academia, civil society, and all stakeholders in the ecosystem, he said.

Amutse expressed hope that the conference will foster knowledge sharing, collaboration, and tangible recommendations to improve Namibia’s cybersecurity landscape.
