Namibian official calls for more investment in fisheries sector to boost economy

Namibian Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources Bernhard Esau says the fisheries sector requires substantial investments in order to unlock its potential to transform the country’s economy.

He said this Thursday at the inauguration of the Embwinda Fishing Company in Walvis Bay, a coastal town of Namibia.

“These investments include fishing vessels and on-shore processing facilities. We must believe together that there is a lot more we can do to add value to our fisheries, so that our fish may help us more in developing Namibia’s economy,” he said.

The minister added that the policy objective of value addition can creation jobs for Namibians, especially for the youth.

Embwinda Fishing is a company in Walvis Bay with 83 percent Namibian shareholding, which deals with on-shore processing of fish, operates wet-fish trawlers. Enditem
