Namibia’s President Hage Geingob said on Thursday that he has no intention to run for a third term.

“I have no intention of reneging on the principles enshrined therein. I have the utmost confidence that once my second and final term comes to an end on March 2025, our democracy will be mature and robust enough to undergo a seamless succession of power, as has been proven on two occasions already,” he said.

The remarks came after an opinion piece in a local newspaper implied that the president might be running for a third term.

Geingob is currently in the second year of his second term tenure of a five-year term ending in March 2025.

“Finally, I have stated at many public rallies, that I have a contract with the Namibian people. This contract commenced in March 2015 and will end in March 2025, and I have no intention of breaking it,” Geingob said. Enditem
