The National Labour Commission (NLC) has instructed the Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU) of TUC and the government to conclude and sign their conditions of service by January 29, 2025.

This directive follows a report on November 27, 2024, where both parties affirmed that negotiations had begun in good faith. The NLC gave the two sides until January 29, 2025, to finalize and sign the conditions of service.

King James Azortibah, General Secretary of TEWU-TUC, expressed gratitude for the ongoing support from union members, especially during the union’s indefinite strike that began on November 18, 2024. Azortibah emphasized that the strike’s suspension and the resulting progress demonstrate the strength of unity within the union.

He further reassured the union members that the outcome shows the power of collective action and reaffirms TEWU’s commitment to becoming the preferred union for education support staff.
