Dr Isaac Ankomah and Mr. Samson Deen, would head the newly formed Para-Athletics and Powerlifting bodies respectively, after the inauguration of the two bodies under The National Paralympic Committee (NPC) on Thursday.
The inauguration of the two bodies, which took place at the Accra Sports Stadium Media Center, would have a four-year term.
They have been mandated with the task of developing and promoting para sports in the country. The Para-Athletics, which would be headed by Dr. Isaac Ankomah would have Mr. Otor Plahar as Vice President, with Peter Adjei as Secretary General and Winfred Nafisa as P.R.O, whiles Ignatius Ellertey, Shaban Mohammed and Sesiman Donatus would serve as Executive Committee Members. Bishop Cornelius Adjah Coffie, President of NPC said the decision to inaugurate the bodies was part of their development strategy for para sports in Ghana. According to Bishop Coffie, the two bodies will have a four-year term each. He charged them to do everything within their powers to lift the image of the sports. Mr. Pius Enam Hadzide, Deputy Youth and Sports Minister, assured the heads of the two bodies of government’s support adding that they should “develop the sport before promotion”. Mr. Samson Deen led administration would have Peter Adjei as the Vice President with Michael Kwame, Edward Oppong and Ignatius Ellertey as Executive members.
