Rev. Dr. Ernest Adu Gyamfi, Chairman of the National Peace Council (NPC), expressed optimism that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will sign the 2024 peace pact despite current disagreements.
He indicated that the NDC’s demands are manageable and that discussions are underway to address the party’s concerns.
“The NDC has not categorically stated that they won’t sign.
There is still hope,” Rev. Dr. Adu Gyamfi said in an interview with journalists on August 21, 2024.
He emphasized that the Council plans to engage with NDC leaders to address the party’s grievances and reach a consensus.
On August 20, 2024, the NDC outlined six conditions that it wants resolved before agreeing to the peace pact.
The party has expressed scepticism about the effectiveness of previous agreements, citing a need for tangible outcomes.
In response, Rev. Dr. Adu Gyamfi acknowledged that while some of the NDC’s conditions are beyond the NPC’s mandate, the Council is committed to addressing the concerns within its control.
“Some of them [NDC conditions] are not within our control, and there’s nothing that the Peace Council itself can do,” he noted.
