Aquatic Federation to host swimming meet

The Nigeria Aquatics Federation (NAF) will host the 5th Chief of Naval Staff Swimming Championship for September 19-23, to be held in Oghara, Delta State.

The event will be held in conjunction with the Nigeria Navy with support from the local government.

Babatunde Fatai-Williams, the NAF President, expects participants from the police, armed forces, tertiary institutions and swimming clubs to compete in the championships.

“The facilities is Oghara have been upgraded to world standard level and are ready to host the championship,” Fatai-Williams said.

“The event is being hosted at this time in order to engage the youths and also create the opportunity to train the coaches.”

The 34-event championship resumed after a 10-year hiatus in 2010, but remains short of funding.

For the past three years, the federation has not received any money from the government. Funding has been from the board members, individuals and support from the Nigeria Navy,” NAF board member Olatokunbo Thomas admitted.
