NCCE holds Inter-Party Dialogue Committee meeting at Savelugu

The Savelugu Municipal Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has held an Inter-Party Dialogue Committee meeting to discuss ways to promote peace and unity among residents in the municipality.

The day’s meeting, held at Savelugu, formed part of the Preventing Electoral Violence and Providing Security to the Northern Border Regions of Ghana project being implemented by the NCCE with funding support from the European Union.

It brought together representatives of various political parties, youth groups, persons with disabilities, women groups, traditional authorities among other influential groups in the area.

Participants were taken through peace-building mechanisms, preventing violent extremism, radicalisation and terrorism, identifying early warning signs, among other topics.

Mr Jibreel Alhassan, Savelugu Municipal Director of the NCCE, said it was to provide an opportunity for participants to discuss issues concerning peace and national cohesion for accelerated development.

Alhaji Abdul Razak Saani, Northern Regional Director of NCCE, emphasised that maintaining peace and stability was the collective responsibility of everyone and urged participants to be advocates for peace and tolerance in their communities.

He further urged them to be tolerant at all times and ensure they used dialogue to resolve their differences.

Alhaji Mohammed Sualihu, Chief Imam at Savelugu Central Mosque, encouraged the youth to uphold the principles of peace in their communities to help achieve sustainable development.

Mr Asuaboah Kaku, a Police Officer from the Savelugu Municipal Police Command, reiterated the need for the citizenry to be tolerant and law-abiding as well as cooperate with the security agencies to promote peace and security in the area.

Mr Seidu Mohammed Osman, Northern Regional Chairman of Progressive People’s Party, encouraged the NCCE to periodically engage the citizenry on issues of peace and stability to help build their resilience against violence.

Participants pledged their commitment to play active roles to promote and sustain peace in the municipality.
