The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has reinstated Prof. Richard Asiedu as the Central Regional Chairman following a one-month suspension for alleged anti-party conduct.
In a statement released on Friday, August 2, the party announced Prof. Richard Asiedu’s immediate reinstatement to his position.
According to the statement signed by NDC Chairman Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey, the decision was based on Article 48(9)(f) of the party’s constitution.
“While you were suspended as Central Regional Chairman of the Party for one month under Article 48(9)(f) of the Party’s constitution, you are reinstated to your position as Regional Chairman of the Party in the Central region with immediate effect,” the statement read.
Prof. Asiedu’s suspension came following a meeting held on July 2, 2024, which discussed the withdrawal of the Assin Central parliamentary candidate, Shaibu Migyimah.
The withdrawal was reportedly linked to allegations of an amorous relationship between Migyimah and the wife of the constituency General Secretary, Sadique Broni.
The statement also emphasized that while Prof. Asiedu has been reinstated, his conduct will be closely monitored to ensure it does not undermine the party’s prospects in the upcoming December 7 elections.
The reinstatement signals a move towards internal reconciliation within the NDC, aiming to maintain unity and focus ahead of the regional elections.
