Prof. Richard Kofi Asiedu, Central Regional Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has urged the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana, Mrs Jean Mensa, and her Deputy, Dr Bossman Asare, to prioritize the people’s will in the upcoming elections.
He stressed the importance of allowing Ghanaians to choose their leaders without interference that could favour one political party over another.
In a recent statement, Prof. Asiedu highlighted concerns regarding illegal voter transfers, missing names, and erroneous transfers into unknown constituencies, issues he believes could undermine the integrity of the Voter Register.
“Ghanaians are ready to vote their minds out; the EC cannot dictate how they should vote,” he asserted.
He emphasized the need for a free and fair electoral process and stated that voters, not the commission, should determine the country’s leadership.
His comments followed the NDC’s “Enough is Enough“ demonstration, which aimed to demand transparency and accountability in the electoral process as the nation approaches the December 7, 2024, elections.
Prof. Asiedu warned that any misstep in the electoral process could lead to chaos, jeopardizing the democratic principles and progress Ghana has achieved since 1992.
