The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has deployed a special taskforce to handle the registration and issuance of membership cards in some constituencies in the Central and Bono East regions.
The Party said efforts to resolve challenges that had confronted the registration exercise in some constituencies, including Agona East and Techiman South had proven “intractable,” hence the move.
The Techiman South Taskforce will be led by Professor Joshua Alabi, a leading member of the Party, while that of the Agona East will be led by Mr Ako Gunn, a Deputy National Communications Officer of the Party.
“The mandate of the Task Forces is to take over the registration and issuance of cards in the said constituencies and handle same till the end of the exercise,” a letter signed by Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia, General Secretary, NDC, and addressed to the Regional Chairmen of the affected constituencies, said.
The Party directed all Regional and Constituency executives to co-operate with the taskforce for a successful execution of the exercise.
“Constituency executives are free to accompany the Task Forces in their rounds, if they so wish. However, they are not to interfere in the work of the Task Forces,” it directed.
The NDC commenced the registration of new members into the Party on 21st May, 2022, and will end on 7th June, 2022.
The registration will pave way for the conduct of the Party’s Branch elections to be held from 15th June to July 2022 – and the results of that election will be collated from 1st – 7th August, 2022.
Per the guidelines approved by the Party’s National Executive Committee, the NDC will hold its Ward elections in August 2022, followed by constituency elections in September, 2022.
Barring any change in schedule, the Party will hold its Regional Conference in October, 2022, and the entire activities for the reorganisation of the Party will be climaxed with a National Congress in November, this year.
