Mustapha Gbande, Deputy General Secretary for Operations of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has threatened to counter-sue Interior Minister Henry Quartey following a legal threat from Quartey over recent allegations.
Gbande had previously claimed that Quartey met with the Deputy Inspector General of Police and others to allegedly plan ways to rig the 2024 elections. In response, Quartey warned of legal action against Gbande for these allegations.
Speaking to the media, Gbande indicated that if Quartey proceeds with his lawsuit, he will file a counter-suit and reveal what he described as “malicious” activities involving the Minister.
“I will not only counter-sue him for falsely accusing me of criminal activities and inciting state institutions against me, but I will also take the opportunity to expose malicious issues related to the Minister and his previous roles as a Regional Minister,” Gbande stated.
Gbande also addressed Quartey’s additional claims that he was involved in organizing an army to incite violence during the elections. Gbande vehemently denied these accusations, asserting he has no involvement in such activities.
He warned that the NDC would resist any attempts to undermine the electoral process and expressed surprise at the ruling government’s use of “nefarious, fraudulent, and crooked” means to prepare for the next election.
“How can you complain about something I said and then end that complaint by making such an empty, malicious allegation against me?” Gbande questioned.
He further criticized Quartey’s involvement in recruiting security personnel without following due process, suggesting it could be an attempt to use internal security agencies to interfere in the elections.
