AS many as 19 executives, out of the total of 26 members of the Evalue-Gwira Constituency in the Western Region, have forwarded a petition to President John Mahama, through the Western Regional Minister, Paul Evans Aidoo, asking for the removal of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) in the area.
In response to the petition, the Western Regional Minister, quickly set up a committee to review the petition to provide an avenue for the issues raised to be addressed.
The Deputy Constituency Secretary of the NDC, King Philip, who confirmed the intervention of the minister, said they were assured after deliberations on the petition that the committee’s report would be prepared and a copy given to the petitioners.
Unfortunately, he said, nothing had since been heard from the Minister or the committee sanctioned to review the petition.
He explained that several efforts made by the petitioners to get copies of the outcome and proceedings of the committee proved futile.
According to him, the NDC executives in the constituency are on strike at the moment, to demonstrate their anger and protest against the actions of the authorities.
Asked why they want the MCE out, the secretary said: “He is disrespectful and not making any impact, and this is not what the party needs in this crucial election year. Some executives have even refused to attend meetings because of him”.
He said the MCE knows he is under intense pressure and is, therefore, lobbying from all angles to protect his job.
King Philip said the executives will make a public declaration to terminate all working relationship with the MCE if they do not receive any favourable response from the regional minister “in the next week or two”.
