The 45th Anniversary celebration of the June 4th Uprising was held with a call on Ghanaians to see the occasion beyond party colours.

The event happened at Enyan Denkyira in the Ajumako -Enyan-Essiam District of the Central Region under the theme, ” Unity, Loyalty and Victory for 2024″. It attracted thousands of NDC loyalists and others in and outside the country.

The Constituency Chairman of the NDC, Professor Anthony Annan, in his welcome address, thanked the national executives of the NDC for the choice of the Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam District as the venue for this year’s June 4th Celebration.

He assured that the NDC was bound to emerge victorious in the December 2024 parliamentary and presidential elections. “We celebrated the 44th-anniversary of June 4th in the Assin North Constituency last year resulting in the NDC winning the Assin North Constituency parliamentary seat. Certainly, the NDC will be the winner in the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections. Celebrating the June 4th anniversary is a good omen for the National Democratic Congress. It’s all about our victory,” Professor Annan predicted.

The Central Regional Chairman of the NDC, Professor Richard Asiedu, lamented that the Akufo Addo-led government has exhibited gross incompetence over the last seven and half years. He called on party supporters to work harder to ensure the defeat of the New Patriotic Party come December 7.

The MP for Cape Coast South, Kweku Rockettes Hagan, delivered a speech on behalf of the Minority leader in Parliament and MP for the Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam Constituency, Dr. Casiel Ato Baah Forson. He took the gatherings through the genesis of the June 4th Celebration. He used the occasion to call on the masses to exhibit the same unity, loyalty, and vigilance by the cadres 44 years ago and defeat the NPP in the upcoming presidential election.

The General Secretary for the NDC, Fiifi Kwetey, applauded the multitude present for the 45th Anniversary celebration of June 4th. He then enumerated various factors that brought about the celebration of the June 4th uprising. Mr. Kwetey called on the nation to see the June 4th Celebration as a savior for the country from bad governance riddled with corruption, inflation, unemployment, and other evil practices. He therefore suggested to the citizenry to see the celebration beyond party colours.

According to him, uniting against corruption promotes accountability, which late former president Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings fought for. He noted that as much as there are few NPP members whose conduct is good, many are criminals, thieves, and corrupt. He attacked the State Attorney for witch-hunting the MP for Ajumako -Enyan-Essiam Constituency, Dr Caasiel Ato Forson, for no offense committed.

The MP of Klottey Korle, Dr. Zenator Agyemang Rawlings, added her voice to what brought the June 4th Celebration into reality and the need for the citizenry to help realize the probity and accountability of the June 4th Celebration.

The National Chairman of the NDC, Asiedu Nketsia, disclosed that the factors that brought about the June 4th uprising are similar to the current happenings in Ghana. He therefore called on corrupt officials of the Akufo Addo-led government and the State Attorney who is trying ways and means to wrongfully prosecute the MP for the Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam Constituency to be wary of the accountability that awaits them.

The 2024 Vice presidential candidate for the NDC, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang, disclosed that the NDC is the most loyal and democratic party in the country. She said corruption, inflation, water pollution, and unemployment under the current NPP government exacerbated Ghana’s economic crisis. She also condemned the government for finding faults where there were none, and for jailing innocent political opponents wrongfully.

Prof Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang called on the citizenry to vote against the NPP in the December Elections for better developments.

The event was characterized by a cadet procession, lighting the June 4th loyal flame and wreath laying ceremony.
