Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the running mate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has called on traditional leaders to actively address issues that could undermine peace ahead of the December 7 general elections.

Speaking to NDC supporters in Mpohor Manso during her three-day campaign tour of the Western Region, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang stressed the importance of the Electoral Commission implementing robust measures to ensure a free, fair, transparent, and credible electoral process.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang highlighted that when proper electoral structures are in place, candidates are more likely to accept the results, regardless of the outcome. However, she warned that the absence of a level playing field could lead to contentious results.

“If you are confident that the right structures have been established for fairness among the candidates, you are compelled to accept the outcome. But if it’s clear that the process is not equitable, the results become contentious,” she said.

She urged traditional and opinion leaders to vocalize their concerns about any issues that may threaten the integrity of the elections.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP), alleging that it boasts of having multiple strategies to win the upcoming elections despite its perceived failures in governance.

She emphasized that credible elections should not rely on dubious tactics.

According to Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, the December 7 elections allow Ghanaians to address the current government’s shortcomings and the hardships citizens face.

She urged voters to support NDC’s flagbearer, Mr John Dramani Mahama, who, she promised, would implement a series of reforms, including the 24-Hour Economy, the establishment of a Women’s Development Bank, and the introduction of a National Apprenticeship programme to reset the country and create job opportunities.
