Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the running mate of National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer John Dramani Mahama, has unveiled the party’s bottom-up development agenda.
The agenda aims to revitalize Ghana’s economy and enhance the livelihoods of ordinary citizens, particularly those in the informal sector.
Speaking to traders at the Winneba market in the Central Region on August 2, 2024, Opoku-Agyemang emphasized that the NDC’s development strategy is designed to address the needs of everyday Ghanaians.
“You are the reason we are returning to government,” she said. “Our development plan ensures that you benefit from good governance.”
Opoku-Agyemang highlighted that the NDC’s agenda will focus on tangible improvements in infrastructure and services, including the construction of markets, schools, hospitals, and roads.
However, she stressed that this time, the emphasis will be on directly impacting informal sector workers, such as traders.
Key to the NDC’s plan is the establishment of the Women’s Development Bank, which aims to support and elevate female traders and small-scale enterprises.
Opoku-Agyemang pointed out that advancing women’s financial status benefits entire households and contributes to broader economic progress.
Additionally, the NDC proposes a 24-hour economy policy to stimulate job creation and wealth generation.
“We are committed to creating a robust economy that operates around the clock, fostering job opportunities and economic growth,” she said.
Opoku-Agyemang urged residents of Winneba to support the NDC’s vision by voting in the upcoming elections, asserting that their backing is crucial for returning Ghana to a path of sustained progress.
She affirmed that the NDC’s approach is centred on inclusive development that addresses the aspirations and needs of all Ghanaians.
