The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has started its campaign for the Asawase constituency with a solid commitment to victory, emphasizing that winning the seat is “non-negotiable.”

The Asawase constituency, a consistent stronghold for the NDC since its creation in 2004, holds significant strategic importance in the party’s overall electoral strategy.

The launch event took place on Sunday, August 4, and drew a large crowd, showcasing the party’s determination to keep the seat amid increasing competition from the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, the former Minority Chief Whip and five-term Member of Parliament for Asawase expressed confidence in the party’s unity and stronghold in the constituency. Despite NPP’s efforts to challenge the seat, Mubarak assured supporters that the NDC would secure a decisive victory in the upcoming December elections.

“The NPP may have thought that the NDC was divided in the constituency, but we stand here today as a united force,” Mubarak declared. “I can assure you, no one can wrest the Asawase seat from the NDC. We are not just retaining it, but we are increasing our votes for John Mahama.” This unity and determination are what make us a formidable force in the upcoming elections.

The Asawase constituency has been a consistent stronghold for the NDC since its creation in 2004, and party leaders are optimistic about their prospects. Youth leader Umar Harris dismissed NPP’s claims, asserting that the party’s aspirations of capturing the seat are unrealistic.

Haruna Iddrisu, the former Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Tamale South highlighted the importance of securing a significant portion of votes in the Ashanti Region, arguing that the region’s support would be crucial for John Dramani Mahama’s presidential bid. “Ashanti is only for the NPP if they’re performing. With the current state of affairs, we in the NDC are optimistic that Asanteman will support John Dramani Mahama,” Iddrisu said. He projected that achieving just over 35 percent of the vote in the region would ensure Mahama’s victory.

The NDC leadership also made a solemn pledge to safeguard every ballot, particularly in the Ashanti Region, where Asokwa parliamentary candidate Amoh Kamel warned against NPP’s ambitious vote targets. “We will not stand by and allow them to manipulate the election. We are fully prepared to protect and ensure that every valid ballot is counted,” Kamel declared. This commitment to a fair and transparent election is a testament to our party’s integrity and respect for democracy.

The enthusiastic turnout at the campaign launch encouraged the NDC, who viewed it as a clear sign that retaining the Asawase seat is achievable.
