Ghanaian actor Prince David Osei has faced a wave of backlash from social media users following his endorsement of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in the upcoming December 7 elections.
Osei’s call for Ghanaians to support Bawumia and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has ignited a heated debate online, with critics arguing that his comments fail to address the country’s pressing economic concerns.
In a tweet on Tuesday, Osei urged Ghanaians to vote for growth and development under Bawumia’s leadership, contrasting it with a return to former President John Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
He acknowledged the criticisms of Ghana’s current economic status but suggested that, relative to other African nations, the country remains stable and has significant potential for advancement.
“Despite our challenges, Ghana is still in a better position than many other African countries.
We have the potential for growth and improvement, especially with Dr. Bawumia leading us forward,” Osei wrote.
He warned that reinstating Mahama could lead to a reversal of progress and exacerbate existing problems.
However, the actor’s endorsement has been met with substantial criticism.
Social media users quickly voiced their discontent, accusing Osei of being out of touch with the realities many Ghanaians face.
One user commented, “Fortunately, most Ghanaians appreciate the worst state of Ghana now under your darling Bawumia.
Rooting for a candidate who questions his logic is the lowest anyone could go, but you don’t mind.”
Another critic remarked, “Ghanaians care more about having a decent life than being better than other African countries.
We are not in any competition.
The NPP has the plot twisted, and they must go into opposition to figure it out.”
Arthur Tawiah Emmanuel also said, “Because of your selfish interest, we should go for someone who supervised this mess we are in today.
Today’s dollar rate is not 4 cedis anymore; petrol, diesel, and other commodities have soared, but you are here saying what? Interesting.”
Osei’s public support for the NPP has been around for a while. Still, his recent remarks have intensified the scrutiny of his political views and their alignment with the current socio-economic climate in Ghana.
Fortunately, overwhelming majority of Ghanaians appreciate the worst state of Ghana now under your darling Bawumia. Rooting for a candidate who questions his own logic is honestly the lowest anyone could possibly go but you clearly don’t mind.
