The New Nation School (NNS) has been named the Top Performing School in this year’s British Council Partner Schools’ General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE).
Thirty-six outstanding students from various Ghanaian partner schools were honored by the British Council for their exceptional performance in the Cambridge International exams.
The awards ceremony was held at the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons on Liberia Road in Accra.
Attendees included students, their families, school leaders, and teachers from the 95 British Council Partner Schools across the country.
New Nation School received IGCSE Star Performing Awards in multiple subjects: Accounting, Additional Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Literature-In-English, and Physics.
The school also led the pack by securing six out of ten awards in the GCSE overall school category.
The school won the award in 2014 and in 2016 and has now been adjudged the best IGCSE for 2024.
This year’s awards coincide with the British Council’s 80th anniversary in Ghana, highlighting its enduring commitment to fostering educational excellence and supporting the aspirations of Ghanaians.
Dr. John Kpikpi, Director of New Nation School, who was also recognized among the top three school leaders, expressed his delight at the school maintaining its top position for the third time.
He attributed this success to the students’ exceptional performance, the tutors’ dedication, and the Grace of God.
“We are exceptionally proud of the achievements of our dedicated students. Their awards are a testimony to the hard work put in by them and our teachers,” he said.
Keshav Sreedharan, Regional Exams Director at the British Council, commented on the significance of the awards: “We believe in the potential of Africa’s young people and are delighted to contribute to empowering Africa’s future leaders. These top achievers are among tomorrow’s leaders, and we are proud to honor them and the incredible support system that has guided them to this moment.”
Country Director for the British Council Ghana, Nii Doodo Dodoo, emphasized the global reach of the British Council Partner Schools community, which includes over 2,000 educators worldwide.
He highlighted the organization’s collaboration with 82 schools, 120 school leaders, and 2,500 teachers in Ghana to provide Cambridge qualifications to young Ghanaians.
