Our Rescue, a global Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) dedicated to combating child sexual exploitation and human trafficking, has renovated and equipped an office at the Volta North Regional Police Command of the Ghana Police Service.

The office now serves as the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit for the Command.

Before the renovation, the Volta North Police Command lacked a dedicated Anti-Human Trafficking Unit. Our Rescue invested $12,000 to refurbish and furnish the office with essential equipment, including furniture, a computer, and a printer.

At the commissioning ceremony held in Hohoe, Volta Region, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Kofi Blagodzi, the Volta North Regional Police Commander, emphasized the significance of the new office in enhancing police efforts against human trafficking and related crimes.

He highlighted the Ghana Police Service’s commitment, led by Inspector General of Police Dr George Akuffo Dampare, to tackling crime and protecting human rights.

Fred Akweter, Country Manager of Our Rescue, underscored the NGO’s global mission and collaboration with law enforcement agencies to rescue and support trafficking victims. He expressed gratitude for the partnership with the Ghana Police Service in combating human trafficking.

Richard Morley, Middle East and African Regional Director of Our Rescue condemned human trafficking as modern-day slavery, stressing the organization’s dedication to combating this heinous crime and supporting survivors.

Deputy Superintendent William Ayariga, Director of the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), acknowledged Our Rescue’s continuous support, which he credited as pivotal in preventing, detecting, apprehending, and prosecuting human trafficking offenders.

The initiative marks a significant step forward in the fight against human trafficking in the Volta North region, aligning with global efforts to eradicate this severe violation of human rights.
