The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has announced the payment of GH¢1,001,329.00 under the government’s free dialysis programme, covering services for July and August and including an advance payment for September.
This new allocation brings the total funding for the programme to GH¢1,588,565.00 since its inception in June 2024.
The funds will support six major health facilities: Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Cape Coast Teaching Hospital (CCTH), Efia Nkwanta Regional Hospital (ENRH), Ho Teaching Hospital (HTH), Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH), and Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH). The hospitals will use the funds to reimburse patients who paid out-of-pocket during the covered months and ensure that services are uninterrupted.
Beneficiary Details:
- Patients aged 18 and below and 60 years and above Receive eight free monthly dialysis sessions under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
- Patients aged 19 to 59 years:
- At KATH, CCTH, ENRH, HTH, and TTH: Receive two free monthly dialysis sessions.
- At KBTH: Receive a monthly 50% subsidy for two dialysis sessions.
The NHIA’s funding is part of its broader initiative to enhance access to dialysis treatment and alleviate patients’ financial burdens.
Since the programme’s launch, the affordability and accessibility of these essential medical services have significantly improved.
