Nigeria-China ties growing stronger

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has lauded the growing and healthy relations between the West African nation and China.

Speaking in Lagos, Nigeria’s economic hub, upon the inauguration of three naval ships on Thursday, Buhari appreciated the beneficial cooperation between the two countries.

Among the three ships was Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Unity, which was built in China.

President Buhari told his audience that the healthy and growing diplomatic relations with China had been most beneficial to Nigeria.

He recalled that the Chinese government had earlier donated an offshore patrol boat to the Navy at the time of taking delivery of the sister ship of Unity last year.

NNS Unity, the second ship purchased by Nigeria from China, is widely expected to enhance the NNS’ effectiveness and responsiveness to the maritime security challenges within Nigeria’s waters.

China-Nigeria relationship has continued to enjoy comprehensive and rapid development in recent years.

In 2015, trade volume between the two nations defied a sluggish world economy to reach 15 billion dollars, accounting for 42 percent of the total trade volume between China and the West African region. Enditem
