Nigerian representatives at the sixth edition of the Taekwondo Championships held in Edinburgh, Scotland on the first day of the event won four gold and two bronze medals. 
Those that did the nation proud in this year?s big festival for Commonwealth nations; the 64 nations that are known to be affiliated with Commonwealth Taekwondo Union include Jamilu Mohammed (M), Sola Olowookere, Adamu Isah (M), and Esuku Josephine (F) who all won gold, while Asigbe Adaeze (F) and Blessing Nwakama (F) won bronze medals.

According to the NTF President, Master George Ashiru: ?This is Nigeria?s best ever performance in international championships, surpassing the three gold, one silver and one bronze won at the 1987 All Africa Games. 

?The team?s preparation and selection methodology paid off with superb performances with six medals from 10 athletes who competed in the first day of tournament. 

The Senate President, David Mark, Minister of Sports, Dr. Tammy Wenike Danagogo, the Director General, and Director of FEAD at the NSC were said to have sent in congratulatory messages to the athletes who made the nation proud at the tournament that features 550 competitors across the Commonwealth member nations. 

Meanwhile, the remaining six fighters including Chika Chukwumerije and his brother, Uche, were scheduled to take part in their weight categories last night as the championship ended Sunday.?
