The Nigerian Correctional Service on Friday said it has launched a full investigation into a jailbreak attempt in the country’s southeastern city of Aba.
One inmate was feared dead and many others injured as security agents halted the jailbreak attempt on May 16, the News Agency of Nigeria reported.
The jailbreak attempt was planned by long-term serving inmates, said Kalu Ikpe, a spokesman for the Nigerian Correctional Service.
“We are still carrying out our investigation into the incident,” he said.
A joint effort by security agents deployed to the correctional facility had prevented the inmates from breaking away. Enditem
