Nigeria’s police on Tuesday said unknown gunmen have kidnapped a Catholic priest at Ankuwa village in the troubled Kachia area of Kaduna state in the northern part of the country.
State police spokesman Yakubu Sabo, who made this known to reporters in Kaduna, said operatives were already combing the village with the view to rescuing John Bako Shekwolo and arrest the abductors of the priest.
Shekwolo was abducted on Monday night, said Sabo.
The Catholic Archdiocese of Kaduna said the abducted cleric is the parish priest of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Kachia area of the state.
A statement signed by the Chancellor of Archdiocese Daniel Kyom asked members and other well-wishers to offer prayers for the release of the priest.
Kyom also called on the kidnappers to release the cleric unharmed.
The Kaduna state has witnessed a series of attacks by unknown gunmen since February, leading to hundreds of deaths. Enditem
