Nigeria rival parties jostle for gubernatorial elections

With the presidential election of Africa’s most populous nation concluded, Nigeria again faces some tension as the governorship elections for its numerous provinces will be held by the weekend. wpid-FCT20Elections.jpg Having lost the presidential elections, the ruling party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is desperately trying to retain control of the states which it still controls.
This is due to the recent emergence of the opposition party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), which is a conglomerate of such political parties as the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), and, partially, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA); as the winner of the 2015 presidential polls with their flag bearer MuhammaduBuhari. The ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been in power since 1999, and for the first time lost its claim on power to the opposition from a rival political force. The defection of many politicians and party chiefs from the PDP to the APC have raised a lot of questions as to whether the PDP can still retain control on many of the states it controlled.
BosunAdebo, a newspaper vendor in Lagos said that there is a lot of anticipation among most of his customers as to whether or not PDP can win more governorship seats across the country or if the opposition APC will rob them of that as well. Enditem
