Nigeria to boost security with equipment – defense chief

Nigeria would continue to provide appropriate equipment and build an effective fighting force to contain current security challenges, the country's defense chief has said.


Speaking at a training program for selected units of the Nigeria Army in northern Kaduna State Wednesday, Gen Abayomi Olonisakin, Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) said President Muhammadu Buhari will ensure the Nigerian Armed Forces adequately equipped to enable it perform its constitutional role of protecting the territorial integrity of the country.

The training was among series of support programs developed to deepen strategic partnership between the Nigerian Armed Forces and the United States Military, he said.

The strategic partnership is borne out of a shared commitment to counter terrorism and violent extremism in the world, said the defense chief.

He implored the about 800 personnel in the training to make maximum use of the training opportunity to improve on their skill and capabilities in tasks.

On his part, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Tukur Buratai, assured soldiers that the government would improve their welfare and provide them with necessary logistics support to excel.

Buratai added that the Nigerian military would strictly respect the rights of citizens in line with international laws. Enditem
