Police spokesperson Celestina Kalu told journalists in Asaba on Thursday that the suspects met their waterloo after police operatives acting on information swooped on them in the premises of the victim.

Kalu said the suspects, on sighting the police team, engaged them in a fierce gun battle and in the ensuing exchange of firepower, three of them were fatally wounded.

The spokesperson said in the ensuing gun duel, the three suspected kidnappers were fatally wounded and arrested, adding that they died on the way to the hospital.

She listed the items recovered from the suspects to include one English pump action gun, one cut-to-size gun, seven live cartridges and their car.

Kalu said the corpses of the deceased kidnappers were deposited in the Central Hospital, Warri for autopsy while investigation had commenced. Enditem
