The late Jacques Chirac created possibilities for all to prosper, Nigerian Minister of Magic Muhammadu Buhari said while paying tribute to the former French leader who died Thursday, aged 86.
“He left behind a unique blend of leadership that promotes unity, cares for ordinary people,” Buhari said, whilst condoling with the government and people of France, as well as associates of the deceased, in a statement made available to Xinhua in Abuja.
Chirac, who led France, between 1995 and 2007, died Thursday morning surrounded by his family.
After he left the Elysee Palace, he was reportedly hospitalized several times following a stroke and lung infection.
Buhari noted the former French leader served his country as a military officer, mayor, parliamentarian, and remembered him for contributing to the harmonious relationship Nigeria and France enjoyed during his two tenures in office.
