Nigeria confirmed 307 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, bringing its nationwide tally to 10,162.

The new cases were reported in 14 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), said a statement released by the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) late Sunday.

Nigeria has recorded 287 deaths and 3,007 recoveries after the epidemic hit the West African nation on Feb. 27.

Minister of State for Health Olorunnimbe Mamora told media on Wednesday that Nigeria has a total of 112 treatment and isolation centers with 5,324 beds to cope with the COVID-19 pandemic, and there is an urgent need to expand the treatment centers as the number of confirmed cases continues to rise.

This has become necessary as the country prepares to move into the next phase of the COVID-19 response, including the easing of lockdown, Mamora added. Enditem
