Nii Ayikoi Otoo Against Early Congress

Astute lawyer and a leading member of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nii Ayikoi Otoo has rubbished the call for an early congress to elect the next Presidential Candidate for the 2016 elections.

According to the head of the legal team of the NPP, his assessment of the 2008 and 2012 elections have proven that the early congress routine has not benefited the NPP in any way as the party upon massive campaigns in the two elections failed to win power when hopes were very high.

In an interview with the host of Okay FMs ?Ade Akye Abia? programme the renowned lawyer ascribed the early congress as ?time wasting and unnecessary? as the NPP has not profited from that election approach.

He further said that; ?we should learn from the NDC how they have been conducting their campaigns prior to elections; they wait till few months to elections to buy the votes from Ghanaians with money and a lot of items and then render our three years campaign useless?.

He however urged the leadership of the NPP to adopt the same campaign strategy of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) if the party (NPP) is poised to winning the 2016 election.

He therefore concluded by drawing the attention of the leadership of the NPP to the 2012 elections; ?the NPP was hopeful for victory in the 2012 election after the death of the late President Mills but the NDC managed to buy the votes of Ghanaians within three months to the general election and retained the power?.

Lawyer Nii Ayikoi Otoo advised the leaders of NPP to desist the attempt of going for an early congress because to him it is time wasting and unnecessary, but rather should focus on how to position the party to wrestle power from the NDC in 2016.
