Pressure is mounting on the Director-General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), Samuel Awuku, over some alleged shady deals in his office.
The National Organiser of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) who is affectionately called Sammi Awuku has incurred the wrath of most of the staff of NLA due to what some of his employees describe as discrimination.
He is also accused of “building walls” around some employees and extending their contracts illegally to the chagrin of some persons who should be in charge of those offices.
Headquarters of NLA
Some staff who spoke to XYZ about the issue concluded that favoritism and nepotism have hit an “all-time” high ever since Sammi Awuku assumed the role of Director-General of NLA some eleven months ago.
One critical point of such discrimination, an employee said, was that Awuku had affected the retirement of someone Director of the NLA and refused another to retire.
XYZ sources indicate that the Director of Enterprise Risk and Quality Assurance, Mr. Lawrence Dzikunu has been asked to proceed on retirement after attaining the age of 60 while Sammi Awuku is in the process of giving a contract extension to Mr. George Gyamfi -New.
Gyamfi-Osew who is the Director of Operations at NLA and turns 60 this year is a close pal of Awuku.
The contract extension will be in contravention of the directives of the Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, that there should not be an extension of the contract of any public official who is due retirement.
“Even the former Auditor-General, Mr. Daniel Dormelevo was forced to retire at the age of 60, so why is Sammi Awuku trying to give Mr. George Gyamfi-Osew a contract?” a key official of the NLA fumed when reached for clarity.
He said there are “equally competent people in the Operations Department such as Mr. Andrew Tuah, Ralph Fiifi Amisssah, and Kwame Peasah who can perfectly replace the Director of Operations upon his retirement.”
The fuming staff is angry because they do not know what is so special about Mr. George Gyamfi-Osew to warrant a contract extension while some hardworking staff who are due for promotion have not been elevated.
Some also believe Awuku’s move is only to stagnate the progress of other equally qualified professionals who are scandal-free and love accountability.
The staff has vowed to “explode and reveal issues” if Sammi Awuku, a darling boy of President Akufo-Addo continues to discriminate incessantly to satisfy his parochial interest.
The rot under Sammi Awuku, according to the aggrieved staff, stinks and therefore calls on the Finance Minister whom their boss is disrespecting with impunity to act.
