“Thirty-four individuals in the Ayawaso West Municipality of the Greater Accra Region are being taken to court for failing to maintain clean environments and participate in the Ga Homowo clean-up exercise, which the Ga Traditional Council requires before this year’s Homowo celebration.

The initiative, led by Ga Mantse King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, aims to ensure that the cultural festival is well-prepared, as it is very significant for the Ga people.

To enforce compliance, shops, banks, food joints, and other establishments were instructed to close on Friday.

Sandra Ahenkorah, the Chief Executive of the Ayawaso West Municipality, emphasized the municipality’s commitment to environmental regulations, especially during critical cultural events.

“Since yesterday, we have issued summons to 34 people. All shops and businesses were required to close,” she stated, highlighting the seriousness of non-compliance.

“Although some eventually cooperated after our interventions and closed their businesses and participated in the clean-up, we will still proceed with legal action,” Ahenkorah affirmed. She reiterated the municipality’s dedication to upholding regulations without compromise.

“We expect full compliance from all residents as we prepare for the Homowo festivities,” Ahenkorah concluded.
