The North East Regional Minister, Yidana Zakaria, has called on the chiefs of the North East Region to support the effective implementation of the District Roads Improvement Project (DRIP) by providing access to lands with gravel deposits.
This appeal aims to facilitate the extraction of materials crucial for constructing essential road infrastructure across the region.
The DRIP equipment, recently commissioned in Nalerigu, is set to enhance the region’s road network. Six districts, including two municipal and four district assemblies, will receive 61 DRIP units.
Minister Zakaria addressed the chiefs, emphasizing the collaborative effort needed to make this initiative successful. “I want to appeal to our revered chiefs through the Nayiri,” he stated.
“We are political representatives of the president, but you are the land owners. The equipment will be used within your jurisdictions; we need access to gravel pits to facilitate this. This initiative is not for profit but for the benefit of the people.”
He further urged traditional authorities to assist the municipal and district assemblies in monitoring the movement of the DRIP equipment to ensure its proper use and longevity.
“As we return to our districts, the chief executives will approach you regarding the need for gravel pits. We ask for your cooperation in fulfilling these requests to serve your communities better,” Zakaria added.
The Minister also highlighted the importance of using the equipment solely for its intended purpose, stressing, “The equipment is meant to benefit the people of the North East Region, not for the personal gain of any individual.”
The commissioning event was attended by all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) of the region, representatives of the overlord, paramount chiefs, divisional chiefs, assembly members, and various stakeholders, including NPP regional and constituency executives.
