A Junior High School student died during the Wulensi Fire Festival in the Nanumba South District of Ghana’s Northern Region.
The student, whose identity has not been disclosed, was killed instantly when a musket he attempted to fire exploded. The tragic incident occurred when the student fired the musket into a gutter, causing it to explode and strike him in the head.
The Fire Festival, which marks the beginning of the Islamic calendar, is intended to be a celebratory event. However, authorities had warned against the use of firearms and other dangerous equipment, urging moderation during the festivities.
Despite these warnings, some individuals, particularly the youth, ignored the advice, leading to the tragic incident.
The Assembly Member for Wulensi, Zebilla, confirmed the incident to Channel One News and expressed his condolences to the deceased’s family.
