Young players, including girls had the opportunity to showcase their talents once again in the Northern Regional capital, Tamale when the nation?s most credible and authentic grassroot football, Airtel Rising Stars hit the Northern city for the Zone 4 competition this weekend.

The Zone 4 event, which is one of five zonal competitions preceding the national finals in Sunyani later in August this year saw off great tussle between the teams from Upper East Region and the Northern Region all in attempt to book a place in the finals.

Northern region?s team A showed glimpses of their intent to qualify to the finals in their first match with superb brace coming from their danger man Abubakari ?Gaucho? Karim who was eventually named by the technical study team as the overall male best player.
At the end of proceedings, Northern Region Team A boys registered seven (7) points to book their place in the finals with Upper East Region Team B and Northern Region Team B placed second and third picking five (5) and two (2) points respectively.

In the ladies The Upper East ladies in the girls? category piped their Northern Region rivals 4-3 in a penalty shootout after both teams failed to the ball behind the net in regulation time.
Zonal Business Manager of Northern Ghana at Airtel, Mr. Kwame Osarfo-Amoah commented,? we had a very wonderful Zone 3 competition last week at the Wa All Stars Stadium and this week?s Zone 4 is no exception.

We have seen great talents exhibiting their potential to play football on the field of play with so much zeal and enthusiasm. Airtel Ghana is committed to continue this partnership with the Ghana Football Association to unearth the vast pool of young talents in this country to feed our junior national teams and eventually the senior national team, Black Stars?.

Mr. Osarfo-Amoah added,? I am very much impressed especially when the very last game mattered a lot in determining who qualifies to the final and I will urge the Northern team to prepare adequately because they up for a tough challenge ahead in the finals from other finalists.?

The technical director of the Ghana Football Association, Coach Francis Oti Akenten shared his excitement at how far this year?s competition has gone. ?We have seen great talents since we started this year?s competition and I that we need to put them into good shape then we can draft them into the national under -17 team. We need them like this right from this age which is the best for their development so that in the next two years these boys as we have found here for instance we will be called to join the Black Starlets squad in camp?. He reiterated.

The Airtel Rising Stars competition turns to Denu in the Volta Region on 22nd & 23rd August when teams from the Greater Accra comes face to face with their Voltarian counterparts to end the zonal competitions.

Airtel Rising Stars is a grassroot football initiative by Airtel Ghana in partnership with the Ghana Football Association to unearth football talents in the country. It is also held in all the 17 countries in Africa where Airtel operates.
