— The head of Zambia’s prison body said the prison population has soared to over 20,000, signaling a need to expand prison facilities.

Percy Chato, Commissioner-General of the Zambia Correctional Service, said the inmate population had climbed to more than 20,000 against a holding capacity of 8,350. (Daily Nation)

— The Zambian government has urged mining firms to take advantage of the upswing in copper prices to increase investments in mineral explorations.

— Dutch development bank FMO has provided 15 million U.S. dollars to a Zambian-based bank to enhance the growth of small and medium enterprises as well as the agriculture sector.
