Farouk Aliu Mahama, Member of Parliament for Yendi, expressed the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) unwavering commitment to the Northern Region.

He stated that the NPP aims to secure around 50% of the votes in the Northern Region during the upcoming December elections, citing the region’s significant development initiatives as the basis for this ambitious goal.

During an interview on Asaase Radio’s TownHall Talk, Mahama emphasized the substantial infrastructure investments and developmental projects undertaken by the NPP government over the past seven and a half years.

“We are targeting 50% of the votes in the north in this election. This goal reflects the unprecedented development projects implemented by our government, including extensive road networks, healthcare facilities, educational infrastructure, rural electrification, and support for business development,” he stated on July 19th.

Mahama particularly praised the impact of Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s policies and highlighted the construction of a 168-km road from Tamale to Yendi through Zabzugu and Tatale, facilitated by a World Bank project as evidence of the NPP’s commitment to northern development.

“No previous government has achieved such milestones in northern Ghana. Even in Yendi Constituency alone, we have seen significant infrastructure improvements, including a 30 km asphalt road,” he added.

Mahama also questioned former President John Mahama’s developmental legacy in the northern region, contrasting it with Vice President Bawumia’s evidence-based approach to governance, which involves using data and research to inform policy decisions and ensure their effectiveness.

“While in office, what did John Mahama accomplish for the people of Northern Ghana? Dr. Bawumia’s record speaks for itself, demonstrating tangible progress and development,” he remarked.

Expressing confidence in his re-election prospects, Mahama affirmed his commitment to increasing his victory margin in the Yendi Constituency.

As the election season approaches, Mahama’s comments underscore the NPP’s strategic focus on consolidating support in the Northern Region through targeted development initiatives and electoral strategies. This reiterates the NPP’s confidence in the Northern Region and its commitment to its development and progress.
