The Assin Kyekyewere District Court has remanded Ebenezer Dwamena, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary candidate for the Twifo Atti-Morkwa constituency, into police custody on serious charges of conspiracy to defraud by pretence and false pretence.
These charges, which are in violation of section 131 of the Criminal and Other Offences Act 1960 Act 29, have been brought against him.
Dwamena’s arrest stems from an incident where he allegedly introduced acquaintances to a car dealer after purchasing a vehicle himself.
Despite receiving payment, the dealer reportedly failed to deliver the vehicle, prompting legal action from the buyers and resulting inDDwamena’s remand.
Presiding judge Her Ladyship Sophia Priscila Yeboa Esq. has made a significant decision in this case. She has ordered the suspect to be remanded in police custody and referred the case to the Attorney General’s Office for further guidance.
In response to the allegations, Paa Amoako, the NPP communication officer in Twifi Praso, stated, “Ebenezer Obeng Dwamena is not directly implicated in the case.
He facilitated the purchase of a car for personal use and assisted friends in a similar transaction.
Unfortunately, the failure of the seller to deliver the vehicle led to legal proceedings””
The case, initially brought before the Praso Magistrate Court, has since been transferred to Fosu due to its complexity.
The court recently convened for preliminary proceedings. During this time, all parties involved were remanded for two weeks pending investigations. It’s worth noting that this decision was made despite strong objections from their legal representatives.
This development underscores the escalating legal challenges Dwamena and his associates face as they navigate the repercussions of the disputed transaction.
