Richard Ahiagbah, the Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has praised President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s administration for its substantial contributions to Ghana’s health sector.

Speaking on his X platform, Ahiagbah emphasized that the impact of Akufo-Addo’s investments in healthcare is evident, noting significant progress and ongoing projects.

Ahiagbah pointed out that under Akufo-Addo’s leadership, the administration has completed seven hospital projects inherited from the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He also highlighted the completion of the nine Kufuor Euroget Hospitals, which the previous NDC-Mahama administration had abandoned.

Furthermore, the Akufo-Addo administration has initiated and completed 37 new projects, including Phase II of the University of Ghana Medical Center (UGMC).

In addition, 14 more hospital projects are underway, such as the 750-bed Maternity and Children’s Block at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), the 100-bed Obusia Trauma Hospital, the new Western Regional Hospital, and the historic Agenda 111 hospitals.

Ahiagbah’s comments coincide with President Akufo-Addo’s address at the Indonesia-Africa Forum on September 2, where he discussed Ghana’s health journey since independence. Under the theme “Wealth through Health: Ghana’s Progressive Journey to Development and Prosperity,” President Akufo-Addo underscored the integral role of health reforms in the nation’s strategy for sustainable growth.

He argued that a healthy population is essential not only as a moral imperative but also as an economic necessity, driving productivity and innovation.

President Akufo-Addo also highlighted the establishment of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in 2003. The NHIS now covers over 56% of Ghana’s population and is one of Africa’s most successful health insurance programs.

Ahiagbah endorsed the President’s stance, aligning it with the World Health Organization’s One-Health Framework and the Health-In-All Approach. He noted that these frameworks are reflected in the 2020 Revised National Health Policy, which the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration is actively implementing to enhance the health and well-being of all Ghanaians.

In his post, Ahiagbah urged voters to support Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in the upcoming December elections, emphasizing that the NPP’s 2024 manifesto includes a commitment to sustain and expand health sector investments.

He called on the middle-class, independent, undecided youth and all objective voters to back Bawumia, framing the vote as a choice for continued improvements in healthcare.

“Remember, health is wealth. A vote for Dr Bawumia is a vote for your health. Vote for Dr. Bawumia for a healthier Ghana,” Ahiagbah concluded.
