NPP Delegates Have a Duty to Elect the Right Candidate

15th October, 2014

The Ghana Institute of Governance and Security(GIGS) as a political watcher ?wishes the New Patriotic Party(NPP) very well at this important moment when the delegates have a political accountability decision to make to elect their presidential candidate?? to give hope and offer leadership? ??for their party supporters and sympathizers

On Saturday 18th October, 2014 the delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) cannot be expected to postpone their particular opinions as to who they will like to vote for to become the presidential candidate and obviously represent the party in the 2016 general elections

Strongly, the outcome of the decision which the one hundred and forty one thousand (141,000) delegates are going to make, will be binding on the party faithful an irreversible decision unless through a higher decision making body i.e. the legal systems and unforeseen circumstance

GIGS having monitored and observe the campaigns the various presidential hopefuls have embark on in such an important exercise, and now the final responsibilities is left for the delegates to exercise their thumb power on the favorite candidate across the two hundred and seventy five (275) constituencies as mentioned above, deem it necessary to ask the following questions: i.what factors are going to influence their decisions to vote for a particular candidate. ii Are they aware that their views and opinions which they are going to express ????stand for over five (5) million citizens who voted for their party during the election in 2012?

Certainly, we cannot choose a leader for the party but we at GIGS can only use this opportunity to appeal to the NPP delegates to ensure that they elect a competent person for their party. Although, we understand politicians differ in their competence but we advice them to specifically elect someone who can ascertain perfectly the state of the world, respect the democratic traditions of the country, respect the constitution of Ghana and International laws and protocols the country has signed onto and also respect their own party structures and Ghanaian as a whole

May the presidential contestants respect the result

Once again, GIGS wishes the entire NPP family all the best.
