THE MEMBER of Parliament (MP) for Atiwa East constituency in the Eastern region, Abena Osei Asare, has been accused of allegedly dividing the front of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the area.

Her accusers who are mostly NPP supporters said she and her few supporters had hijacked the ongoing polling station elections to suit her cronies.

Her alleged action has created a lot of confusion in most of the polling stations, thereby causing disaffection among party members.

It all started when the MP allegedly attempted to prevent some of the party members to contest various positions at the polling station by giving the forms to only her preferred candidates.

Insiders of the party told the Daily Heritage that after assumption of office as MP, Madam Asare, had aligned herself to some non-executive members of the party who had been giving her advice as to what to do.

She was said to have threatened to unseat most of the current constituency executive members and bring in her favourites to enable her be the MP for the area for years to come.

The action of the MP had caused physical confrontations at most polling stations where elections were conducted.

The police had to come in at Ankaase where a number of NPP supporters including some constituency executives were arrested for rioting.

The situation forced the eastern regional executives of the party to discontinue the exercise to enable them investigate various accusation and counter accusations brought before them by the contending parties.

The members have, therefore, appealed to the party hierarchy to bring the MP to order to avoid total collapse of the party in the constituency.

At the time of filing this report, the MP was said to have travelled outside the country, but her supporters including one Asiedu Kotwe of Akyem Enyiresi denied the allegations and said the MP is rather trying to bring sanity into the party to enable more people join and win more votes in 2016.
