Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has committed to ensuring the passage of the Broadcasting Bill before the current Parliament concludes its term.

Speaking to the media on Sunday, August 25, Bawumia emphasized the government’s dedication to advancing media freedoms and enhancing individual rights.

The Vice President assured journalists the administration is focused on passing the bill before the Parliament’s final session this year.

“In line with our philosophy and our commitment to upholding the fundamental rights to free speech and media freedoms, as well as expanding individual rights, we will ensure the Broadcasting Bill is passed and fully implemented before the end of this parliamentary session,” Bawumia said.

He also pledged to continue supporting the Media Capacity Enhancement Programme, which aims to improve journalists’ knowledge and skills.

“We will further resource the Media Capacity Enhancement Programme to continue enhancing the expertise of journalists,” Bawumia added, reinforcing the government’s ongoing commitment to media development.
