The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially unveiled Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, known as NAPO, as Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s running mate for the upcoming 2024 presidential elections.
The ceremony, held in Kumasi, the capital of the Ashanti Region and an NPP stronghold, included a formal introduction to Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, symbolizing the party’s deep roots in the region.
NAPO’s nomination was endorsed by the NPP’s National Council on Friday, July 5, amid widespread support from party leaders, including President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who expressed confidence in the duo’s leadership capabilities.
Despite criticisms regarding NAPO’s demeanour, the NPP has staunchly defended their choice, emphasizing his qualifications and dismissing allegations of arrogance. Suggestions have been made for NAPO to use prepared scripts to ensure effective communication in public engagements.
The event attracted prominent figures within the NPP, underscoring the party’s unity and readiness for the electoral battle against the National Democratic Congress (NDC), led by former President John Dramani Mahama and Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang.
With the stage set for a competitive election, the NPP’s alliance of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and NAPO aims to secure victory and continue their governance agenda for Ghana’s prosperity and development.
