The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that vigilante groups do not disrupt the 2024 elections in Ghana.
This pledge was reiterated during an event hosted by the National Peace Council, where a committee was established to implement a code of conduct to address vigilantism and election violence ahead of the December 7th polls.
Speaking to the media in Accra, William Yamoah, Director of Finance and Administration for the NPP, emphasized the party’s stance against vigilante activities before, during, and after the elections.
“We believe in the institutions of this country, such as the police service, the military, and the Ghana Armed Forces. We do not support any groups acting as vigilantes or providing security,” Yamoah asserted.
Highlighting the party’s recent internal elections as an example, Yamoah pointed out the successful collaboration with the police to ensure security at all centres without violence or chaos.
“In our recent internal elections, we entrusted the security operations to the police, and there were no violence-related incidents at any of our centres. This should assure you that the NPP has confidence in the institutions of our country,” he added.
As Ghana prepares for the upcoming elections, the NPP’s commitment underscores its proactive approach to maintaining peace and security, advocating for adherence to established institutions rather than vigilante groups.
