Dr Mark Assibey-Yeboah, Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Manifesto Sub-Committee on the Economy, has dismissed the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) demand for an audit of the voter register, stating it comes too late with just 81 days before the general election.
In an interview on TV3’s Business Focus, he questioned whether the NDC was prepared to delay the election process. He noted that the Electoral Commission has already allowed the public to check the register and report any discrepancies, including names of deceased individuals.
He emphasized that established processes and timelines have been followed, asserting, “We do the registration, we do the mop-up, and then there is a display of the register for you to check your name.”
Dr. Assibey-Yeboah suggested that NDC flagbearer John Dramani Mahama’s recent criticisms of various leaders stem from his frustrations rather than substantive electoral issues.
He expressed confidence that the NDC’s concerns would not alter the outcome of the upcoming elections.
This commentary follows the NDC’s “Enough is Enough“ demonstrations on September 17. Supporters protested alleged discrepancies in the provisional voter register, claiming these issues could unfairly benefit the governing NPP in the December 7 polls.
