Ernest Kofi Owusu-Bempah, Deputy Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has staunchly defended Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as a transformational leader amidst criticism from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

In a press briefing in Accra on Thursday, August 1, Owusu-Bempah not only praised Dr Bawumia’s leadership qualities but also emphasized his unwavering commitment to Ghana’s development, a commitment that sets him apart among presidential aspirants.

“Bawumia is a transformational leader,” Owusu-Bempah affirmed. “The way Dr. Bawumia conducts himself shows that Ghana has a future. It demonstrates that we have a leader committed to developing Ghana.”

Addressing recent accusations from the NDC labelling Bawumia as a “liar” for unfulfilled campaign promises, Owusu-Bempah challenged the opposition to substantiate their claims with specific examples.

He further challenged the NDC, asking, “What has Bawumia said that shows he is a liar?” He then proceeded to provide a robust defense, stating, “Every single thing that Dr. Bawumia said relating to the economy has come to pass. Therefore, the attempt by the NDC to call him a liar will not materialize.”

Dr Bawumia, slated to contest as the NPP’s flagbearer in the 2024 elections, has faced criticism over perceived shortcomings in meeting specific campaign pledges.

Owusu-Bempah criticized the NDC’s approach, accusing them of engaging in propaganda to discredit Bawumia without factual basis.

He then issued a direct challenge to the NDC, stating, “What has Bawumia said that has not come to pass that the NDC claims he is a liar? We are daring the NDC to come out and tell us, through his political career, what Bawumia said he would do that he didn’t.” This challenge underscores the NPP’s confidence in Bawumia’s leadership and his ability to deliver on his promises.

The debate over Bawumia’s record and leadership style remains a focal point as Ghana approaches the upcoming elections, with contrasting narratives from the NPP and NDC shaping public discourse.
