Nana Appiah Owusu, a member of the New Patriotic Party’s communication team, has publicly apologized for making unfounded accusations against security analyst Adam Bonaa at the behest of Maame Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, Director-General of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
Owusu admitted that Maame Tiwaa misled him into attacking Bonaa, whom he accused of personal grievances against Tiwaa due to financial disputes.
Speaking on Accra’s NeatFm, Owusu clarified, “The claims I made previously about Adam Bonaa supposedly making demands at EOCO were based on information given to me by Maame Tiwaa.
I have since conducted my investigations and found that these claims cannot be substantiated.”
During the broadcast, he directly apologized to Bonaa, stating, “I want to render an unqualified apology to him.”
In response, Bonaa acknowledged Owusu’s apology and reiterated his stance on advocating for accountability within EOCO. He emphasized that his actions were not driven by personal grudges but by a commitment to ensuring transparency in public institutions.
Regarding a recent incident where Maame Tiwaa allegedly called Bonaa’s wife, Owusu criticized Tiwaa’s approach, describing it as inappropriate. He recounted advising Tiwaa against involving Bonaa’s spouse in their professional disagreements.
Maame Tiwaa, on her part, defended the phone call to Bonaa’s wife, characterizing it as a plea to prevent her from becoming an unintended casualty in the conflict between herself and Bonaa.
The exchange underscores ongoing tensions within EOCO and highlights the repercussions of unsubstantiated claims in public discourse.
