Mr. Foster Kwame Opoku Boakye, the Bono Regional Director for the National Sports Authority (NSA) has appealed to stakeholders in sports to invest in infrastructure to expedite the development of sports in the region.
“It is unfortunate the required sports infrastructure, including equipment and other logistics needed to train and groom young talents is unavailable in the region”, he told the GNA Sports in Sunyani on Tuesday.
He expressed grave concern about the current deplorable state of the only region’s volleyball and basket court, and appealed for support to rehabilitate the facility.
“It’s sad the region doesn’t have a boxing and taekwondo gym as well as athletic track to promote the disciplines”, Mr, Boakye added, saying other sporting disciplines such as handball, and table tennis have no facilities to train the young talents.
Mr. Boakye also called for support to complete the construction of a four-unit office building, with washrooms which started in 2013, saying the project had reached roofing level but had been left in ruins due to lack of funds.
“We appealed to philanthropists, corporate organizations, citizens of Bono and all stakeholders to come on board and help improve on sports in infrastructure,” he said, indicating though the government was doing its best, more support was required to unearth and nurture the sporting talents of young people in the region.
